Any visit to the public space can be turned into an experience. With that goal in mind Teun Fleskens set out to design Chit Chat. A giant rocking bench made of wood or polyester that can seat one to seven people. When you sit down on the Chit Chat you gently move the bench, and anyone who is on it!
The rocking amazes people and stimulates interaction with their neighbours without violating the comfort zone because people are seated on a round bench. The ice is broken and new contacts are created which really improves the atmosphere. The experience of the public domain will never be the same!
The wooden Chit Chat is a true eye-catcher. Visitors really enjoy admiring this masterpiece of woodworking.
The development of the first wooden Chit Chat was an expensive and time consuming adventure. Designer Teun Fleskens knew, when he set out on this serious undertaking, that he could only succeed when he teamed up with his youth friend and master woodworker Gerben de Graaf.
The wooden Chit Chat is built layer by layer from Finnish birch multiplex, ash, oak or walnut. One can recognize the craftmanship of the maker in the perfect continuation of the woodgrain or herringbone. Only the hardest of wood are suitable for this proces.
Gigantic woodworking machines create the rough form of the Chit Chat, and then the Chit Chat is slowly shaped into its final perfect form using finer techniques. Finally the wood is carefully sanded and lacquered.
The first Chit Chat took months of continuous development. Nowadays, when you order a Chit Chat Gerben and his team of specialised craftsman need 2 weeks to build your Chit Chat. The result is something to dream of, the wooden Chit Chat is a truly exclusive object and remaining hommage to Dutch craftmanship and Dutch design with the use of the best natural materials.
The polyester Chit Chat white is the most demanded model for a reason. The white works very well in open spaces and is exceptionally suitable for outdoor use.
The robust quality of the polyester Chit Chat makes it very suitable for the public domain, public buildings and parcs. We have succesfully placed the Chit Chat at hospitals, government buildings and an amusement parc. The private sector frequently uses the Chit Chat in the entrance.
The polyester Chit Chat is made in The Netherlands in a way similar to boat building. There are many ways to accessorize your Chit Chat, e.g. wooden seats, plants etc.
We offer the Chit Chat in any RAL color. A unique object in the color(s) of your organization is a functional and remarkable conversation piece.
Suitable for in- and outdoor use, in the entrance or in the office. Darker colors are more sensitive to UV-radiation than lighter colors.
The wooden Chit Chat weighs approximately 380 g. (Weight depends on the wood of your choice.)
A polyester ChitChat will be weighed down with sandbacks to a total weight of approximately 380 kg.
The placement of the weights enables a light rocking of the Chit Chat. This makes it a playful yet secure experience suitable for any user.

The lifespan of both the wooden and the polyester Chit Chat is remarkable. The Chit Chat requires little maintenance and with a few steps you can prolong the product looking pristine for many years. Here is a short how to:…
The wooden Chit Chat is ment for indoor use only. The lack protects the material from UV radiation and scratches. You can wipe the Chit Chat off with a moist cloth and a mild detergent when needed. Like a classic wooden boat you may need to have the Chit Chat sanded and painted with a new layer of lack every few years.
The polyester Chit Chat is suitable for both in- and outdoor use. White and other light shades better withstand color change due to UV radiation. A regular treatment with boatwax helps to preserve the color, especially with darker shades. Damages are easy to repair. When the Chit Chat is any other color than white you can use a gel coat in the appropriate color.
