Why we set out to create a range of luxury doormats and brooms

RiZZ wasn’t always the power house of luxury home goods it is today! From humble beginnings the business first started out in 1941 making brushes in a post war era. Since then, the founders Trudie & Evert Zuiddam have developed the business, creating new products which combine luxury, design and sustainability. Now the company delivers the world’s best doormat to customers all over the globe.

Where did RiZZ start?

 

In 1941 Hendrik Zuiddam and his brothers established the RiZZ (then GeZu) brush factory. They started by creating heather scrubbers and witches brooms, utilising the raw materials that were on offer after the war.

Brush making has always been central to RiZZ, but over the decades the business branched out, creating plastic components and then a range of draught excluding accessories for the home. Then in the early 2000s, the founders Trudie and Evert Zuiddam decided to expand the business’s offerings. Trudie decided the best way to utilise the company’s high-quality brushes was by creating the “best doormat in the world” and so the RiZZ doormat was born.

 

The journey to creating the world’s best doormat

 

Trudie’s vision for designing the ultimate doormat sparked a shift in the company’s mindset. In response, a set of values were created to establish a culture that could rise to the challenge. These values were:

  • Functionality
  • Quality
  • Craftsmanship
  • An eye for detail

Since this, every product that RiZZ has created embodies these values. The dedication to craftsmanship is apparent at every stage of production. Each doormat is handmade by skilled artisans and designed in-house to ensure it is world-class.

A shift towards understanding environmental impact meant the use of high-quality, carefully sourced materials which now feature in every item. As a result, the end products are both visually stunning, highly effective and sustainable. Furthermore, an unwavering commitment to quality has established RiZZ as one of the leading companies in luxury home goods.

After launching in 2006, the company experienced its international breakthrough at the Maison & Objet design exhibition in Paris, sparking a real interest in the brand within the luxury market.

Now, satisfied users worldwide can enjoy the luxury of the RiZZ doormat and the collection can be sourced from dealers in some of the most design oriented cities in the world, including Oslo, Stockholm, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Antwerp, London, Paris and New York.

Though Trudie Zuiddam sadly passed away in 2009, her husband Evert Zuiddam and their son Sebastiaan Zuiddam have continued her legacy. They have developed a whole range of products specifically for the entrance of homes and buildings, all inspired by the mat that Trudie created.
